PERSONAL FLOTATION DEVICES

Personal flotation aids are the first survival items to be used in an emergency at sea.For this reason, they are essential in the immediate float phase. These elements are manufactured according to the type of use for which they are required. They can be SOLAS/IDS, ISO 12402, UL or other regulations and/or approvals that must be complied with according to the type of use.

SOLAS/LSA LIFE JACKET

It is the main equipment for immediate flotation in the event of a casualty that requires the abandonment of a vessel at sea;it can be used from calm waters, to rough waters and bad weather. According to the SOLAS regulation, chapter III, rule 7.2, the required quantity of these, depends on the number of crew members or passengers on board of the vessel; each one of them must be able to be provided of one personal flotation aid. On the other hand, their characteristics are given by the International Code of Rescue Devices IDS, chapter II, 2.2.1 and 2.2.2

SOLAS/ LSA LIFEBUOYS

It is the main equipment for inmin the event of a casualty that requires the abandonment of a vessel at sea or to be thrown to a man overboard.These are of mandatory use in all vessels, SOLAS regulation, chapter III, rule 7.1. Its characteristics are given by the International Code of Rescue Devices IDS, CHAPTER II, 2.1.1.

IMMERSION SUITS

It is an important piece of equipment to survive the first phase of immediate flotation in the event of a shipwreck or abandonment of the ship. In addition, its use is mandatory in cold waters, since it isolates the survivor and protects him against hypothermia. These suits are manufactured in accordance with SOLAS, LSA, IMO and other related regulations. 

SOLAS CHAPTER III, RULE 32.3, its characteristics are given by the International Code of Rescue Devices (LSA), CHAPTER II, 2.3. There may be variations in the rules according to the rules of each flag.

SOLAS/IDS RESCUE LIGHTS

According to SOLAS CHAPTER III, Rule 22, 3.1, Rule 27, 5.2, Rule 32, 2.2 are of mandatory use in all SOLAS/LSA lifejackets, the characteristics that must be met are found in the International Code of Rescue Devices (LSA), CHAPTER II, 2.2.1.13. Although its use is recommended in all vests that are worn at night, these will allow an easy location of a person in an emergency at sea.Its characteristics are given by the LSA code CHAPTER II 2.2.3.
